APPENDIX 2
Miscellaneous
(a) Letters to Doctors
Letters on the following subjects were circulated to Wood
Green practitioners during 1957, some being sent under my signa
ture as Medical Officer of Health, others either as Area Medical
Officer, District School Medical Officer or jointly. As all the
matters covered in these letters have a direct bearing on the
health of at least a section of the community, and as it is extremely
difficult to divide one1 s responsibility in such a vital
matter as that of health, I have included all the topics covered; -
February - Notification to all doctors of two cases of poliomyelitis.
Suspension of combined immunisation against diphtheria
and pertussis.
Resumption of combined method of immunisation.
March - Supplies of Antitoxins and Antigens.
Regulations as to Infectious Diseases (revised 1957).
April - Collection of Specimens during Holiday Periods.
Case of ? Poliomyelitis.
June - Influenza.

November - Collection of Laboratory Specimens during Christmas.
The remarks set out in my Annual Report for 1956 relating to
the value of close co-operation with general practitioners holds
as firmly today as it did then, I am still veiy happy to think
that the relationship of the Public Health Department with the
family doctor is close and cordial, and that this cordial bond is
playing a truly significant part in maintaining the health of the
district.
(b) Medical Examinations
During the year 52 medical examinations were carried out.
Nine of these were in respect of entrants to the Council s employ
for acceptance into the Superannuation Scheme, 20 in respect of
workmen already in the Council's employ for acceptance into the
Superannuation Scheme and 23 in respect of workmen for acceptance
into the Sickness Pay Scheme.
In addition, 37 medical reports were issued relating to employees
absent from duty through sickness.
