point of prevention and cure are brought to ray notice, I place
the facts before the Housing Section, and am particularly happy
to be able to report that in every instance, my statements have
been carefully and most generously considered Although I know
how difficult the housing situation is in Wood Green I feel that
I must always bring the need of these families to the notice of
the Housing Committee. It must be remembered that not only is it
so very obviously humane to treat a case of tuberculosis with
special consideration there is the remaining and most important
desideratum, the possible spread of infection from a case of
tuberculosis living in unsatisfactory and over-crowded conditions.
As I have stated so often this is the most important way in
which a Borough Council can be of practical assistance to the
Chest Clinic, and to the Borough itself in limiting the spread
of infection, apart, that is, from the well-ordering of the
Borough and the provision of sufficient open spaces As I say, I
have brought this matter to the notice of the Housing Committee
on many occasions and am sincerely glad to say that I have always
been given a most sympathetic hearing The Borough of Wood Green
has an excellent reputation in the matter of helping tuberculous
families having regard to the limited housing accommodation at
the disposal of the Council, I have already mentioned this fact
in several previous Reports I make no apology for paying a further
tribute to the efforts made in Wood Green to assist in
checking this serious disease.
Mass Radiography Unit 6A did not visit Wood Green during 1955,
I have however, a firm promise from the Unit that Wood Green will
be visited during 1956 Indeed as I write this Report, arrangements
are in hand to select a suitable site and to institute the
necessary publicity,
