Two maintenance treatments of the soil sewers were carried
out, one in June and one in November—December. Of 672 manholes
baited in June, 289 showed part poison takes. At the request
of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the second treatment
was on the modified system, i.e., 16 ozs. of poison bait was laid
in each manhole showing complete take of 8 oz. pre-bait. Of 319
manholes showing pre-bait take 100 showed complete pre-bait take
and these latter treated with 16 oz. poison baits, bread rusk and
arsenic being used. There were 292 manholes showing part-take
poison baits, but none with complete takes. The sewer treatment
was carried out in co-operation with the Borough Engineer and
Surveyor's Department. The Public Health Department employs
a whole-time rodent operator who made 2,909 visits to premises
during the year.
Ponds and Rubbish Dumps
