Repairs to Houses
Repairs have been carried out at 532 houses during the year,
principally following complaints from the occupiers of the houses.
For the most part the work has been done after service, by the
Sanitary Inspectors, of preliminary notices, but in 35 cases, statutory
notices under the Public Health Act, 1936, or the Housing Acts,
1936/49, were served upon the owners after failure to comply
with the preliminary notices.
In three instances it was found necessary for legal proceedings
to be taken against the owners and Court Orders were obtained,
with costs. The required work has since been executed by the
owners.
Repairs to eight houses were carried out by the Council in
the owners' default of statutory notices served under Section 9,
Housing Act, 1936. The cost of these works is recoverable from
the owners.
