216 premises have been inspected, and it was found necessary
to carry out treatment in 158 of these. 1,747 visits were made.
INFECTIOUS DISEASE.
Table IV in the Appendix gives details of all cases of infectious
disease notified during 1945. The total of 494 is rather less than
that for the previous year which was 527, and the incidence of
infectious disease was generally very low. 172 cases of measles,
and 117 of whooping cough were notified, in each case without a
death. 62 cases of Scarlet fever were notified also without a death,
and only two cases of diphtheria occurred throughout the year.
For the sixth year in succession no death occurred from diphtheria
in Wood Green, a record which must be considered very satisfactory.
There were 31 deaths from tuberculosis and 27 from pneumonia.
DIPHTHERIA IMMUNISATION.
Immunisation against diphtheria was carried out as in former
years, the total number of children immunised during the year
being 680. Of these 522 were under 5 years of age, and 158 aged
from 5 to 15 years. The material used in all cases was Alum
Precipitated Toxoid, provided free by the Ministry of Health. At
the end of the year it was estimated that 56 per cent. of the children
under 5 had been immunised and 88 per cent. of those from 5 to 15.
