been made any easier by the frequency with which Government
Departments have found it necessary to change their plans and
directions, but we have been fortunate in having the able assistance
of the local division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, and the
local detachment of the British Red Cross, as well as hundreds of
volunteers who have enrolled in the A.R.P. medical services.
To all these I wish to express my thanks for the readiness with
which they have devoted their time and labour to the object of
acquiring the efficiency which will make them of service to their
fellows in case of emergency.
I desire also to thank the members of the Public Health and
Maternity and Child Welfare Committees and the Council
generally for the interest taken in matters affecting the public
health, and finally, the members of my staff for the loyal and
willing service they have given throughout a very busy year. This
service has necessarily, in the case of many of them, involved the
sacrifice of a large amount of leisure time, but it has been, as
always, ready and willing service.
Your obedient Servant,
MALCOLM MANSON,
Medical Officer of Health.
