GENERAL PROVISION FOR HEALTH SERVICES
FOR THE AREA.
Professional Nursing in the Home.
(a) General.
The Wood Green Nursing Association which is affiliated to the
Queen's Institute of Nursing, provides a home nursing service for
sick persons in the Borough who are under the care of medical
practitioners. The services of the nurses provided by the Association
are much in request by the members, and I am glad to state
that steady progress is being made in extending the work of the
Association, so much so that the nursing staff is being increased.
A contribution of £150 was made by the Borough Council to
the funds of the Wood Green District Nursing Association for the
year 1938-39.
(b) Infectious Disease.
It is part of the duty of the Health Visitors to visit cases of
Ophthalmia Neonatorum, Measles, Whooping Cough or Pneumonia
occurring in young children in their areas.
By arrangement with the Nursing Association, notified cases
of Pneumonia are visited by the District Nurses and nursing
assistance is supplied whenever asked for.

Council which is the Supervising Authority under the Midwives
Act, 1936. A very large proportion of the births belonging to
Wood Green occur each year in hospitals or nursing homes, and
it was soon apparent that at the present time there is not enough
work in the district for four municipal midwives as well as seven
