POPULATION.
The Registrar-General's estimate of population for 1937 was
53,510, and I have used this figure to calculate the birth and death
rates for the year. It represents a slight decrease of 110 in the
population from that of 1936 which was 53,620. The variation in
population from year to year is now very slight, and for all
practical purposes the population may now be regarded as almost
stationary.
BIRTHS.
The number of live births registered during the year was 659,
as compared with 700 in 1936 and 570 in 1935. The birth-rate
was 12.3 as compared with 13.1 for 1936, the highest rate recorded
in Wood Green since 1931. The birth-rate for the whole country
was 14.9 and for the 125 great towns (which include Wood Green)
it was also 14.9. The birth-rate for Wood Green was therefore, as
is practically always the case, appreciably lower than both that of
the whole country and that of the great towns.
20 stillbirths were registered, 10 male and 10 female.
The births registered in the Borough were distributed in the
different Wards as follows:—
Alexandra-Bowes 79
Town Hall 259
Noel Park 111
