(c) Mentally Defective.
Twelve mentally defective children from Wood Green were
attending the Joint Special School for Mental Defectives at Finchley.
Many of these children are high-grade defectives who may be expected
to do very well. The school is visited and the children examined

schools, and three others were not attending any school. For this
type of child and for older mental defectives from Wood Green
and neighbouring districts, the Occupation Centre at Shropshire
Hall in Gladstone Avenue performs a useful service in providing
occupation during the day. The mental defectives attending the
Occupation Centre are medically inspected twice a year, and treatment
for dental defects and minor ailments is provided at the School
Clinic.

from an ordinary school.

Wood Green are carried out by Dr. Miller and myself. Defects
found at medical inspection are reported to the parents, who make
their own arrangements for treatment. In the case of dental defects
