Public Health Department,
Ashburton House,
Wood Green, N.22.
June 25th, 1937.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Borough op Wood Green.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I beg to present to you my Annual Report as Medical Officer
of Health for the year 1936.
The chief feature of the year, from the Health point of view,
was the very heavy incidence of diphtheria, and particularly the
severe outbreak in one of the elementary schools whioh was responsible
for no fewer than eight deaths among the children.
The birth-rate for the year is the highest for five years. The
death-rate and infantile mortality rates are, unfortunately also
higher than in the previous year.
I wish to express my thanks again to the Chairman of the
Public Health and Maternity and Child Welfare Committees, and
to the Council generally for the consideration and help which I
have received, and to the whole staff of the Health Department for
their willing co-operation at all times.
Your Obedient Servant,
MALCOLM MANSON.
Medical Officer of Health.
