payment, and 3 for full payment. The total number of meals
provided was 15,704, of which 10,031 were given free, 5,618 for part
payment, and 55 for full payment. The average cost per meal was
5.7 pence, of which 2.4 pence represented the actual cost of food
and 3.3 pence the cost of administration.
In addition to the meals served at the Feeding Centre, 2,331
meals were provided at the School for the Partially Sighted in
Lordship Lane, for the children attending there. Of these 1,184
were given free, 302 for part payment and 845 for full payment.
These meals are cooked at the Feeding Centre.
Apart from this provision of meals, a number of children are
supplied with milk at school free of cost, and a number of others
supplied with malt and cod-liver oil at the School Clinic, either
free or at cost price, on the recommendation of the School Medical
Officers.
12.—CO-OPERATION.
(a) Of Pakents.
The parents of the children are generally interested in the
school medical inspections, and the majority of the children are
accompanied on these occasions by a parent or guardian. In the
infant departments the percentage of parents attending was over 90,
at the second inspection it was 75, while in the case of leavers it
was 36. The parents as a rule are grateful for advice given and
ready to act on it, and there is no doubt that the success of the school
medical work depends very largely on their co-operation.
(b) Of Teachers.
From the teachers we get willing co-operation at all times.
Without their interest and help, our work would lose much of its
effect, and would not proceed so smoothly arid quietly as it does.
The head teachers show themselves interested in our work and I am
glad to be able to express my thanks to them for their assistance.
The School Attendance Officers have also been of assistance in
bringing to our notice children requiring attention, and I am
indebted to them for their help.
