Ante-Natal Clinic.
An ante-natal clinic was held at the White Hart Lane Welfare
Centre every Friday afternoon, and for one hour on Tuesday afternoons.
The number of expectant mothers seen by the Medical
Officer was 277 and the total attendances made numbered 954.'
The remainder of the Tuesday afternoon Clinic was allotted
to post-natal cases, the number seen being 35 and the attendances
49.
Toddlers' Clinic.
A special clinic for Toddlers has been held one afternoon per
month throughout the year, where children between the ages of
two and five years are subjected to medical inspection. By this
means a considerable proportion of children have at least one
medical inspection before attaining school age. The number of
attendances during the year was 206.
Maternity Hospital Provision.
Arrangements are in force with three hospitals, namely, the
Mothers' Hospital, Clapton, the Royal Northern Hospital, Holloway,
and the City of London Maternity Hospital for the admission
of cases from the Wood Green Centres. 25 cases were sent to these
maternity hospitals during the year.
A large number of mothers in Wood Green are admitted to the
North Middlesex Hospital for confinement, mostly through the
Public Assistance Committee, and the total number of births
occurring in hospital or nursing home is increasing steadily year
by year. During the year conferences were held with neighbouring
authorities on the subject of maternity hospital accommodation,
as a result of which representations were made to the
Middlesex County Council with a view to the provision of increased
accommodation.
