medical practitioners. The services of two nurses maintained
by the Association are much in request by members of the Association,
but there is, in my opinion, room for considerable extension
of this work in Wood Green.
(b) Infectious Diseases.
It is part of the duty of the Health Visitors to visit cases of
ophthalmia neonatorum, measles, whooping cough or pneumonia
occurring in young children in their areas.
By arrangement with the Nursing Association, notified cases
of pneumonia are visited by the District Nurses and nursing assistance
is supplied whenever asked for.
Midwives.
No midwives are employed by the Council. During the year
eight midwives residing in the Borough notified their intention to
practise.
MATERNITY AND NURSING HOMES.
There was one Maternity Nursing Home in the Borough
during 1935 registered by the Middlesex County Council.
Supervision of the Nursing Homes and of the midwives
practising in the Borough is in the hands of the County Council.
HOSPITALS.
1. Fever.
Wood Green is one of four authorities (Hornsey, Finchley,
Wood Green and Friern Barnet) which together own and control
the Joint Isolation Hospital, Coppetts Road, Muswell Hill.
The Hospital is a good one, with an excellent modern
observation block, built on the cubicle system, and has accommodation
for one hundred and fifty patients.
