to remark in previous reports, are excellent not only from the
educational but also from the health point of view.
In addition to these two school journeys, there was, as there
has been for many years, a School Camp arranged by the Juvenile
Organisations Committee for selected children from all the schools.
The camp was held again at Dymchurch from August 17th to 31st,
and 197 elementary school children had an excellent holiday.
Twelve of these were boys from the School Sports Association, but
the others, 98 boys and 87 girls, were children Selected from the
different schools by the Juvenile Organisations Committee with the
help of the head teachers, and in some cases on the recommendation
of the School Medical Officers. The preference was naturally given
to those children who seemed to be most in need of a holiday and
least likely to be able to obtain one in any other way. The children
were medically examined, weighed and measured before going to
camp, and again weighed and measured on their return home. The
benefit derived from the holiday was in practically every case
very marked, and the gain in weight appreciable, and there is little
doubt that both the children themselves and their parents are very
grateful to the Juvenile Organisations Committee for the excellent
holiday provided. This provision year by year is not carried out
without very considerable expenditure of time and energy both in
raising the money and in organising the camp, and Wood Green is
fortunate in having a voluntary Committee of this kind which
makes such a practical contribution year after year to the health
and well-being of such a large number of its less fortunately situated
children.
X.—PHYSICAL TRAINING.
Physical training in the schools is carried out under the direction
of the teachers, and there is no direct association with the School
Medical Service. During the year the Education Committee in
association with three neighbouring Education Committees appointed
two organisers of physical training to supervise the physical training
in the schools.
School Baths.
The attendances of school children at the Western Road Public
Baths during the year numbered 47,121, as compared with 42,783
