TUBERCULOSIS.
Table Vll in the Appendix shows that the number of new cases
of tuberculosis coming to the knowledge of the Health Department
during the year was 78, 66 pulmonary and 12 non-pulmonary. Of
these, 68 were notified by doctors practising in the district, or from
hospital, while ten were cases transferred from other districts. The
number of notifications received in the previous year was 66.
Thirty-five deaths were certified as due to tuberculosis, as compared
with 32 for the previous year. Of these, 32 were due to
pulmonary and 3 to non-pulmonary disease. The death rate from
tuberculosis was 0.65 per 1,000 of population as compared with
0.59 in 1933.
Of the 35 deaths which occurred, 5 were in persons who had not
previously been notified as oases of tuberculosis in this district.
The arrangements for providing treatment for sufferers from
tuberculosis are in the hands of the County Council and Dr. J. R.
