SLUM CLEARANCE.
In June, 1933, I submitted a detailed report to the Health
Committee on the condition of nineteen houses on the west side of
the High Road, known as Neville Place, and recommended that
the Council should proceed to deal with these as a clearance area
under Section I of the Housing Act, 1930. The Committee agreed
with the recommendation and attempts have been made since then
to obtain a suitable site on which the tenants of this property may
be rehoused in the event of the recommendation being carried out.
It is, unfortunately, extremely difficult to find such a site in Wood
Green owing to the district being practically entirely built up, and
it has not been possible yet to obtain the consent of the Ministry of
Health to such proposals as have been made. It is hoped that the
further efforts that are being made at the moment to solve the
difficulty of rehousing will be successful.
