Medical Officer of Health is Honorary Medical Officer to the Charity
Trustees, so that there is the closest possible co-operation between
the Public Health Department and the District Nursing Service.
(b) Infectious Diseases.
It is part of the duty of the Health Visitors to visit cases of
ophthalmia neonatorum, measles, whooping cough or pneumonia
occurring in young children in their areas. By arrangement with
the Charity Trustees, notified cases of pneumonia are visited by
the District Nurses, and nursing assistance is supplied whenever
asked for.
Midwives.
No midwives are employed by the Council, but a subsidy of
£1 1s. per quarter is paid to a midwife residing in the district,
whose services are available any time the Council should desire
them.
During the year, 7 midwives residing in the district notified
their intention to practise.
MATERNITY AND NURSING HOMES.
There are two Maternity Nursing Homes in the district registered
by the Middlesex County Council.
Supervision of these Nursing Homes and of the midwives
practising in the district is in the hands of the County Council.
HOSPITALS.
1. Fever.
Wood Green is one of the three authorities (Hornsey, Finchley
and Wood Green) which together own and control the Joint Isolation
Hospital, Coppetts Road, Muswell Hill.
