18.—NURSERY SCHOOLS.
There are none in this District.
19.—EMPLOYMENT OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS.
In connection with the employment of children and young
persons during the past year, revised Bye-laws have been submitted
to the Authorities at the Home Office, for which we are at present
awaiting sanction. Under these regulations, we shall have absolute
control of the conditions and hours concerning the part-time employment
of every child under 14 years of age in attendance at School,
and also the power to revoke the licence of anyone whose health
may be suffering in consequence of neglect of these provisions.
This, in itself, is a step in the right direction to the improvement of
the physical condition of the rising generation.
20.—SECONDARY SCHOOLS.
By arrangement with the County Authority, I also conduct
Medical Inspection of the children attending the two Secondary
Schools in Wood Green, and the services of the Staff of the Education
Office are available for dealing with the administrative work
arising therefrom. Consequently, there is a very close coordination
between the Elementary and Secondary School Medical
Service.
21 —
Special medical examinations have been made during the year
of all candidates for the Teaching profession and members of the
Office Staff, and also of children proceeding to Convalescent
Homes, both before going and after their return.
22.—CONCLUSION.
It is with pleasure that I desire to acknowledge the valuable
help I have received during the whole of the year and especially in
connection with the compilation of this report, from the Director of
Education, the Administrative Officer and the rest of the Office Staff.
I remain,
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
W. E. PORTER,
School Medical Officer.
