Department, and obtaining his certificate under the London Public
Health Act, was appointed a District Inspector in the Borough of
Hackney.
Miss Wadds, to whom I have referred in another part of the
Report, resigned in order to take up a position as Health Visitor in the
Borough of Lambeth, and Miss Rich, from the London Hospital, was
appointed in her place.
The clerical work of the Department having increased to such an
extent as to be incapable of being dealt with by the former staff, it
was felt that further assistance in this direction was absolutely necessary,
and Mr. G. W. Jones, of the Clerk's Department, was transferred and
added to the staff of clerical assistants.
In concluding this Report I wish to thank the members of the
Public Health and Maternity and Child Welfare Committee for their
courtesy in all matters that I have had the honour to bring before
their notice.
I desire also to again acknowledge with gratitude my indebtedness
to the whole of the Staff of my department and for their everready
and willing help, but especially to the Chief Sanitary Inspector,
Mr. Adams, whose long experience in public health work, together
with his intimate knowledge of this district, has made him a very
valuable colleague, and who has always given me most loyal and
genial assistance ever since my appointment in 1916.
I remain,
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
W. E. PORTER,
Medical Officer of Health.
