Application for the use of the ambulance during the day is
made through the Public Health Department, at night and during
Sunday by direct communication with the Fire Station.
The ambulance is available not only for accidents, but also for
conveying residents of the district to and from the various hospitals
in the Metropolitan area.
If conveyance is required to any institution outside the
Metropolitan area a special charge is made.
The ambulance came into use on the 22nd November, and
from that date until the 31st December had been requisitioned 34
times. I need hardly add that the value of its services has been
greatly appreciated, and it has supplied a long felt want. In a
district of this character many occupants have to be conveyed to
and from hospitals in the London area.
Hitherto we have been dependent on ambulances kept by
neighbouring authorities, and there has been delay as well as
considerable expense in making arrangements for the use of same.
With our own ambulance, it is only a question of a few
minutes before arrangements oan be completed for its use.
Perhaps I should add that it is. of course, only available for
non-infectious cases.
Infectious cases are removed in the ambulance from the
Isolation Hospital, and the use of the same is included in the
charges made by the Hornsey Council for maintenance.
