POPULATION.
The total number of completed houses in December, 1906, was
9,127. Allowing 7 per cent. for empty houses, and calculating 5.66
persons to each occupied house, the Population at the end of the
year would be 48,047.
By a similar calculation the Population in December, 1905, was
44,091.
The mean of these numbers—46,059—would represent the
population in June, 1906, and I have taken 46,000 as the average
Population of the District for the present Report.
BIRTHS.
1,232 Births were registered during the year, 620 boys and 612
girls, which correspond to an annual rate of 26.78 per 1,000 of the
population.
