that the time devoted to this work at present is inadequate, and that the position should be reviewed as soon
as possible".
Efforts were already being made to arrange for children who attended from other areas of the
County to be treated in their own areas, but unfortunately this could not be done owing to transport difficulties
and considerable loss of school time.
Arrangements are being made for the two speech therapists working part-time in the Wembley part
of the area and part-time in areas 7 and 9, to be employed whole-time in area 6, increasing the establishment
by the equivalent of one whole-time.
Child Guidance.
A proposal to establish a Child Guidance Centre in Willesden at premises in South Kilburn was
approved during the year. The premises selected for the purposes are being adapted, and it is expected
that they will be fully equipped and staffed by about August, 1954. During 1953 an Educational Psychologist
was appointed; his work in examining and assessing the intelligence of school children of all ages is
proving very valuable.
