MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE.
Marked progress has again to be reported, and a further 19 sessions have had to be reserved
for this work, making 333 in all. The total attendances recorded were 3,993, which make an average
of 12 cases per session.
As most of these patients are desirous of treatment the circumstances which have checked the
school work do not apply to the same extent to mothers and infants.
Cases inspected amounted to 1,286, as against 1,186 in 1933. The number of mothers treated
has increased from 412 to 482, and the infants from 367 to 416 ; a total rise of 119 cases. 6,440
teeth were removed, and 971 conserved by filling, with other operations at 1,129. The proportion of
work done on the infants is 1,460 extractions, 281 fillings, and 31 silver nitrates. General anaesthetics
were given to 946 cases and local to 45.
254 dentures and 2 repair cases have been supplied to the mothers ; 199 were free, and the
remainder at part cost to the patient.
There is no need to give further detail as a full summary comparing 1933 and 1934 is given
in the table below.
