As hitherto, the procedure of the school inspection sessions, has been to supplement the examination
with individual talks to children and parents, and a liberal distribution of leaflets, 343 inspection
sessions were absorbed thus.
Specials.—1,395 children were inspected at the Health Centres, which number is 60 less than
in 1933. This figure not only includes all neglected cases in request of urgent treatment, but also
the many patients (particularly "Leavers") as well as parents with their children who seek advice
at the Health Centres on account of some minor or even trivial defect or abnormality, between routine
inspection.
Treatment.
4,425 out of the 12,693 children referred have received their treatment at the Health Centres,
an acceptance rate of 36 per cent. It must be assumed that since the condition of the teeth of the
elementary school children has been steadily improving over the last few years, that many, as the
result of routine inspection are treated elsewhere. It is in accordance with the Willesden scheme
that treatment should be obtained either at hospital or privately, and not necessarily at the Centres'.
The work includes 7,802 fillings, 9,915 teeth extractions and 4,712 miscellaneous treatments.
General anaesthetics were given to 2,937 patients and local anaesthetics were given to 378. The total
attendances amounted to 11,451 and the treatment sessions recorded were 1,237.
The average work done per session by each dentist is indicated in the Table below.
