* In addition to this number, 140 cases of visual defect received attention by Voluntary Hospital, private
practitioner or optician, but it was not known whether they were submitted to refraction.
In the above table the figures of 719 and 25 represent the cases submitted to refraction
during the year no matter whether they are new cases or cases arising out of re-examination. One
individual child may be submitted to refraction more than once during the year and would appear
in the above table on each occasion.
