Following the experiment at Twyford, a gradually extending use is being made of controlled
tipping as a method of disposing of the town's refuse, and while the original scheme for raising
land at Twyford continues to develop, house refuse is being used also to fill in the old course
of the River Brent at Stonebridge. Thus by this system the disposal of over half the refuse collected
from the Borough is at present being carried out in a satisfactory manner within its boundaries,
the remainder being barged away by contract as formerly.
Drainage and Sewerage.—During the year the work of relieving the periodic flooding on
the Brentwater Estate was extended by the provision of 290 yards of sewer, varying in diameter
from 18 ins. to 30 ins., and it is hoped to complete this work next year. A further short length of
the Mitchell Brook adjoining Bridge Road has been covered in, which has eliminated a source of
nuisance for many years.
In connection with the disposal of the sewage from the new area taken over from Ealing at
Twyford, negotiations are proceeding with the Middlesex County Council for permission to discharge
this sewage into the West Middlesex Main Sewer, which runs parallel and adjacent to the northern
boundary of this area.
