Group II. -Defective Vision and Squint (excluding Minor Eye Defects treated as
Minor Ailments—Group I.).
No treatment has been arranged for by the Local Education Authority, but at the
Kilbum Grammar School (Boys).—In 12 instances the School Medical Inspector noted on
re-inspection that the pupils were wearing suitable spectacles ; in 5 instances the
pupils were under treatment, in 1 instance the vision had been re-tested and suitable
spectacles obtained, and in 2 instances prescription had been obtained but no glasses.
Willesden Polytechnic Trade School (Girls).—In 2 instances the School Medical Inspector noted
on re-inspection that suitable spectacles had been obtained, and in 1 instance the pupil
was under treatment.
Willesden County School.—In 2 instances (girls) and 3 instances (boys) the School Medical
Inspector noted on re-inspection that suitable spectacles were being worn. In 1 instance
(girls) and 1 instance (boys) the vision had been re-tested and suitable spectacles
obtained. In 1 instance (girls) and 2 instances (boys) the pupils were under treatment.
In 1 instance (boys) operation for squint had been performed.
Willesden Polytechnic Building Trade School (Boys).—In 1 instance the School Medical Inspector
noted on re-inspection that the vision had been tested and suitable spectacles obtained,
and in 4 instances pupils were under treatment.
Group III.—Treatment of Defects of Nose and Throat.
Kilbum Grammar School (Boys).—In 3 instances the School Medical Inspector noted on
re-inspection that the tonsils had been removed.
Willesden Polytechnic Trade School (Girls).—Nil noted.
Willesden County School.—In 1 instance (boys) and 2 instances (girls) the School Medical
Inspector noted on re-inspection that the tonsils had been removed.
Willesden Polytechnic Building Trade School (Boys).—In 1 instance the School Medical Inspector
noted on re-inspection that the tonsils had been removed.
Group IV.—Orthopaedic and Postural Defects.
Orthopaedic work is not done in connection with the Secondary Schools in Willesden.
Group V.—Dental Defects.
Dental work is not done in connection with the Secondary Schools in Willesden.
The School Medical Inspectors noted at the examinations during the year that of the cases
previously referred for dental treatment, the following had received dental treatment :—4 cases at
the Kilburn Grammar School (boys), 3 cases at the Willesden Polytechnic Trade School (girls), 7 cases
(boys) and 4 cases (girls) at the Willesden County School, and 1 case at the Willesden Polytechnic
Building Trade School (boys).
Group VI.—Uncleanliness and Verminous Conditions.
Inspection and treatment of uncleanliness is not undertaken by the School Nurses in the
Secondary and Trade Schools.
Treatment of other Types of Defects.
(a) The measures adopted for providing treatment or for securing improvement:—
No measures have been adopted by the Authority for providing treatment.
Notices were sent to parents informing them of the conditions requiring treatment, and the
Head Teachers were notified of conditions requiring special exercises and the like. Pupils with
defects referred for treatment or requiring to be kept under observation were referred for re-examination
at a subsequent visit of the School Medical Inspector.
(b) The effect of the measures taken.
