* These 4 vehicles were sold in June, 1932 for £5.
There are 12 routes run by School Ambulances daily for Physically and Mentally defective
and Blind Children. 309 Willesden children, 1 child from Kingsbury and 2 children from Wembley,
making 312 in all are on the lists for daily conveyance and approximately 255 are in average attendance.
During the year under review the chief work has been:—
Conveyance of cases of Sickness, Accident and Maternity to Hospital ; Conveyance of Physically
and Mentally Defective and Blind and Stammering children to and from school; Disinfection
of bedding ; Transport of laundry to Kingsbury Hospital, Health Centres, Special Schools and
Mortuary ; Conveyance of meals, and certain works for other departments.
A day and night service is in operation for ambulance calls but only one man is on duty during
the night.
The personnel of the service consists of:—
1 Mechanic Superintendent and Engineer.
1 Assistant Engineer.
14 Motor drivers.
1 Disinfector.
The working hours are 47 per week per man.
Calls for the ambulances are very heavy, especially in removal of illness cases to and from
Hospital for treatment. Not infrequently it occurs that several cases are waiting for removal. In
these circumstances the most serious have priority. A certain number of accident calls are not answered,
or are delayed owing to car or driver being engaged.
