From Table No. 41 it will be observed that midwives living in Willesden attended 930 cases
as midwives and 299 cases as maternity nurses, or 1,229 in all.
Of the midwives living in Willesden it will be observed that apart from institutions or associations,
the largest number of midwifery cases that any single midwife attended as a midwife was 48,
and that the largest total of cases that any single midwife attended was 63, being 44 cases which she
attended as a midwife and 19 as a maternity nurse.
From these figures it will be observed that no district midwife living in Willesden devotes her
whole time to the practice of midwifery.
During the year ended 31st December, 1931, 179 notifications were received from midwives
in accordance with the Rules of the Central Midwives Board. Of these 179 notifications, 145 were
received from midwives living and practising in Willesden, and 34 from midwives practising in, but
living outside Willesden. Of the 179 notifications received 149 were in respect of calling in medical
help, 99 being in respect of the mother and 50 in respect of the child.
The total fees paid by the Council to Medical Practitioners called in by midwives during the
year ending December 31st, 1931, was £74 7s. 6d., £10 18s. 6d. of which was recovered from patients.
