* Purchased by 10 years' loan, last payment made September, 1923.
Six of the others were purchased out of revenue and three by loan.
There are 12 routes run by School Ambulances daily for Physically and Mentally Defective
and Blind Children. 290 children are on lists for daily conveyance and approximately 210 are in
average attendance.
During the year under review the chief work has been:—
Ambulance Calls; Conveyance of Physically and Mentally Defective children; Blind and
Stammering children; disinfection and return of bedding; and transport of supplies and staff to
Small Pox Hospital; Board of Guardians' cases; Clinic and Laundry work; conveyance of meals,
and certain works for other departments.
Also during building of Braintcroft School, children numbering up to 54 per day were conveyed
from Brentwater Estate to Mora Road School. M.X. 2059 was specially licensed for this work.
A day and night service is in operation for ambulance calls. (Only one man is on duty during
the night).
The personnel of the service consists of:—
1 Mechanic Superintendent and Engineer.
I Assistant Engineer.
12 Motor Drivers.
1 Disinfector.
The working hours are 47 per week per man.
The Service, in addition to the foregoing, undertakes work as called for for Engineer's Department,
Fire Brigade and other departments.
All engineering work of Municipal and Kingsbury Hospitals is also carried out by the Mechanic
Superintendent and his staff.
Calls for the ambulances are very heavy, especially in removal of illness cases to and from
Hospital for treatment.
Not infrequently it occurs that several cases are waiting for removal. In these circumstances
the most serious have priority.
A certain number of accident calls are not answered, or are delayed owing to car or driver
being engaged and lack of means of calling assistance.
