Maternity and Child Welfare.
The records in connection with the Maternity and Child Welfare Centres are as follows:—
634 mothers and children under 5 years were inspected and 161 brought forward from 1925,
making a total of 795 for the year.
Of these 276 were treated at the Clinics and 7 elsewhere and 278 did not avail themselves
of the opportunity for treatment and 234 were carried forward to 1927.
Altogether, 1,491 attendances were made by these patients, 1,428 teeth removed and 311
treated by conservative methods and 161 other operations on the gums and teeth.
General anaesthetics were administered on 394 occasions.
51 mothers received dentures, 49 of which were at cost to the Council.

251 applications were made for treatment at the Clinics, 129 of these were granted free and
71 on payment of 2/6, the remaining 51, who either did not return forms or refused payment, were
removed from observation.
