THE NINTH ANNUAL REPORT
for the
Year 1926,
on
DENTAL WORK in connection with SCHOOL CHILDREN,
EXPECTANT and NURSING MOTHERS and CHILDREN
under 5 years.
By E. A. JENNINGS, L.D.S., R.C.S.Eng.
SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE.
During the year 12,219 children were inspected at the schools and 1,595 as special cases at
the Clinics, making a total of 13,814.
Of this number 10,250 were found to require treatment, 2,051 children actually presented
themselves for treatment at the Clinics with a record of 4,923 attendances and the work involved
in these cases includes the following:—
The removal of 4,934 teeth (of which 775 were of the permanent series) under general and
local anaesthetics.
The preservation by the insertion of fillings of 1,901 permanent and 654 temporary teeth, also
515 other operations chiefly in the nature of cleaning and the local application of drugs.
In comparison with the previous year it will be noticed there is an increase of 353 in the
number of teeth filled and 714 in the number of extractions. The special cases have increased by
281 and attendance by 539 respectively, while the routine inspections amount to almost an identical
figure.
The following tables give the more detailed information of the year's work and probably
represents as much as it is possible to do under present arrangements.
Table No. 41, corresponding to Table IV., Group IV., of Appendix H. of the Annual Report
of the Chief Medical Officer of the Board of Education for 1923, gives details of the age groups of
children inspected, together with time given and work done at the Clinics on those cases, which
received treatment under the Council's scheme.
