Group II.—Defective Vision and Squint (excluding Minor Eye Defects treated
as minor Ailments—Group I.).
No treatme nt has teen arranged for by the Local Education Authority, but at the
Kilburn Grammar School (Boys).—In 5 instances the School Medical Inspector noted at a
subsequent examination that the pupil now had spectacles. In 1 instance the School
Medical Inspector noted on re-examination that the vision was normal.
Willesden Polytechnic Trade School (Girls).—In 2 instances the School Medical Inspector
noted on re-examination that spectacles had been obtained. In 1 instance the School
Medical Inspector noted that the eyes had been tested by retinoscopy at Hospital
and no spectacles ordered.
Willesden County School.—In 1 instance (boys) and 4 instances (girls) the School Medical
Inspector noted on re-inspection that spectacles had been obtained. In 2 instances
(boys) the vision was normal and in 1 instance (boys) the vision could be passed on
re-examination.
Willesden Polytechnic Building Trade School (Boys).—In 1 instance the School Medical
Inspector noted on re-inspection that the pupil had seen an oculist : vision much
improved. In 1 instance the Medical Inspector noted that the pupil was wearing
spectacles and the vision was not blurred now.
Group III.—Treatment of Defects of Nose and Throat.
Kilburn Grammar School (Boys).—In 3 instances the School Medical Inspector noted at a
subsequent examination that the defect was remedied. In 2 instances he noted that
the tonsils were still enlarged but under treatment. In 2 instances there was no active
disease and in 2 instances the tonsils were normal on re-examination.
Willesden Polytechnic Trade School (Girls).—No cases were recorded as having received
treatment.
Willesden County School.—In 2 instances (1 boy, 1 girl) the School Medical Inspector noted
on re-inspection that the enlargement had subsided. In 2 instances (1 boy, 1 girl)
the defect had been treated.
Willesden Polytechnic Building Trade School (Boys).—No cases were recorded as having
received treatment.-
Group IV.—Dental Defects.
Dental work is not done in connection with the Secondary Schools in Willesden.
The School Medical Inspectors noted at the examinations during the year that of the cases
previously referred for dental treatment 25 cases at the Kilburn Grammar School (boys), 6 cases at
the Willesden Polytechnic Trade School (Girls), 11 cases (8 boys and 3 girls) at the Willesden County
School (Boys and Girls), and 2 cases at the Willesden Polytechnic Building Trade School (boys) had
received dental treatment.
Group V.—Uncleanliness and Verminous Conditions.
Inspection and treatment of uncleanliness has not been undertaken by the School Nurses in
the Secondary Schools in 1926.
Treatment of other Types of Defect.
(a) The measures adopted for providing treatment or for securing improvement:—
No measures have been adopted by the Authority for providing treatment.
Notices were sent to parents informing them of the conditions requiring treatment, and the
Head Teachers were notified of conditions requiring special exercises and the like. Pupils with
defects referred for treatment or requiring to be kept under observation were referred for re-examination
at a subsequent visit of the School Medical Inspector.
(b) The effect of the measures taken.
The School Medical Inspector noted as follows:—
