The following table gives particulars of the conditions for which children were admitted during
1925, the treatment carried out and the results of such treatment:—

Puerperal Fever.—During 1925 16 cases of Puerperal Fever were notified. This gives a
case rate of 5.80 per 1,000 registered births, as against 2.90 in 1923, and 4.20 in 1924.
2 of these notified cases proved fatal, which gives a case mortality of 12.50 per cent., as against
16.7 per cent. in 1924, and a maternal mortality from this cause of 0.7 per 1,000 births. The maternal
mortality from all causes was 2.2 per 1,000 births.
In 8 of the 16 notified cases a private doctor was in attendance at birth, in 1 case the doctor
arrived after the birth of the child, in 3 cases the birth was attended by a midwife, in 1 case the mid
wife arrived after the birth of the child, and in 3 cases the birth occurred in a Hospital.
