SUMMARY (FOR REFERENCE) OF NURSING ARRANGEMENTS, HOSPITALS AND OTHER
INSTITUTIONS AVAILABLE FOR THE DISTRICT.
Professional Nursing in the Home.
(a) General—
(i.) The Willesden District Council has established a Home Nursing Service. The Council's
Nurses are fully trained Hospital Nurses. They visit in the homes once or twice daily
as necessary to nurse cases of illness, particularly amongst mothers and children.
Nurses are provided on application to the Home Nursing Matron, Municipal Clinic (1),
9, Willesden Lane, Kilburn, N.W. 6; or to the Matron, Municipal Clinic (2), 381,
High Road, Willesden, N.W. 10. The Council's Nurses act under the direction of the
Medical Practitioner in attendance upon the case.
(ii.) A few District Nurses are also at work in connection with Nursing Associations, Churches,
Missions, etc.
(b) For infectious diseases, e.g., Measles, etc.—
Carried out by the Council's Home Nursing Staff.
Midwives—Employment of, or subsidy to, practising Midwives, by Public Health Authority.
The Council pays the fees of Midwives in home confinement cases where the economic
circumstances of the patient are below the Council's scale. The fee agreed with the North West
Middlesex Midwives' Association is £1 l1s. 6d., but for a first confinement, £2 2s.
The number of Midwives who at the beginning of 1922 had notified the Middlesex County
Council of their intention to practise in Willesden during 1922 was 17, two of whom were engaged
in institutions.
