The great difference between the numbers of children under five attending the Kilburn Feeding
Centre and those of the other Centres, shews how much the distance to be traversed controls the
attendances.
Quite a large proportion of the young children at Kilburn are drawn from Granville Road
itself, whereas the Furness Road Centre being situated further from a very poor district, cannot
supply the needs of quite young children to anything like the same extent.
It is on account of the poverty and crowded population of the South Kilburn area that steps
should be taken to make better provision for the needs of the district, and to almost as great a degree
there is required a more central spot for a Feeding Centre, than that at present at the Gibbons Road
school. A large number of children from Carlyle, Shakespeare and Milton Avenues, respectively,
are unable by reason of the distance to attend at Gibbons Road.
It is a matter for consideration whether a larger number of Centres serving smaller districts
would not deal more adequately with the problem of feeding the necessitous, the question of economy
of administration being met by the arrangement of a supply depot from a central kitchen.
