(2) The Open-Air Residential School.—Special attention must be given to the following
points:—
(A) The provision of sufficient space for playing fields and for school gardens.
(B) Provision of adequate dormitory supervision.
(C) Provision of a sick-room and observation ward.
This type of School should be associated with the proposed convalescent home for mothers
and children under 5 years. From the figures given in the foregoing section, 20 beds would probably
be occupied. This is a small number for educational purposes. Accommodation for the type of
child suitable for this school should be gradually provided as the longer open-air requirements for
School children are established.
(3) Residential Sanatorium School.—It is suggested that a residential sanatorium school
for 50 children suffering from tuberculosis in all forms be established.
It would be most economical to associate this School with the proposed convalescent home
for mothers and children under 5 years. It would then be possible to utilise the proposed convalescent
home for mothers and children as the administrative block and to provide in addition in the
grounds:—
(a) 5 Open-Air Wards, each with 10 beds.
(b) 1 Observation Ward divided into 4 rooms for observation and isolation purposes.
(c) Offices for the above.
*(d) Small operating theatre.
(e) 2 Class Rooms each for 15 scholars.
(f) Workshops.
* If convalescent home within reasonable distance of Municipal Hospital, theatre
could be dispensed with, as operations could be performed at the Hospital.
