Hospital Cases.
Eight cases (mother and child), each in Hospital
for four weeks, at £2 per week 64

Against this estimated annual cost of £207 should be
noted the following facts:—
(1) If the estimated number of forty-eight cases of
Ophthalmia Neonatorum are not efficiently treated,
at least three are likely to be blinded or partially
blinded as a result of the disease.
(2) The estimated cost of the education of a blind child
is £350, compared with about £50 in the case of
an average child with normal vision.
(3) During the year 1912, eleven Willesden children
were being educated in blind schools or institutions.
(4) The cost of educating blind children (blindness being
due to any cause) belonging to Willesden is approximately
£330 per annum.
(5) The economic and other disabilities of a blind adult.
