School Accommodation.—There were 32 public elementary
schools, with 77 departments and accommodation for
25,241 children in Willesden at 31st December, 1913. In
addition, there were two mentally defective schools and one
physically defective school, with accommodation for 180
children, maintained by the Local Education Authority.
Certain details of construction with regard to these
schools are to be found in the Annual Report of the School
Medical Officer for 1909.
Co-relation of School Medical and Public Health
Services.—This matter is dealt with in my Annual Report
for 1912. Complete co-relation exists as the Medical Officer
of Health is also School Medical Officer.
Organisation and Supervision of Medical Inspection.—The
organisation and supervision of "Medical Inspection
during 1913 follow ed the same lines as in 1912, and will
be found described in my Annual Report for that year. In
June, 1913, a visit was made by Dr. Langdon, one of the
Medical Inspectors of the Board of Education, and a letter
dated 18th September, 1913, was received from the Board
adversely criticising the arrangements on three main
grounds:—
(i) The employment of part-time medical inspectors.
(ii) The unsatisfactory "following up" of cases found
to be defective at routine medical inspection.
(iiii) The need for closer association between the School
Attendance Department and the School Medical
Service.
I dealt with the subject matter of this letter fully in a
report to the Education Committee dated 3rd October, 1913,
