SCARLET FEVER.
Of this disease 660 cases were treated during
the year, as compared with 709 in 1908.
The fatality rate is 2.78 per cent.
As regards the type of attack, nothing specially
is to be noted except the large number of purulent
rhinitis cases which complicated the convalescent
stages. This condition seems to be of frequent
occurrence in this district, and affects not only
hospital patients but also cases treated at home.
It would appear to be most frequently
associated with the presence of a diphtheroid
organism readily enough found in the nasal discharge.
