WORKSHOPS.
An inspection of the workshops and laundries
in the District was made. They were generally
found in a fair condition, but the following amendments
were called for and complied with, viz.:—
In 19 to cleanse and whitewash.
„ 1 „ provide additional w.c. accommodation.
,, 2 „ repair drains.
1 „ remove manure.
BAKEHOUSES.
The bakehouses of the District were inspected,
numbering 48, and found clean and generally in
good condition.
In a few instances the sweepings had not recently
been removed, and the proprietors' attentions
were directed to the neglect, which resulted in the
immediate removal of the same, and reprehension of
the workmen. Notices were served for the periodical
limewhiting of them, which were attended to.
About one-half of the bakehouses of the District
are below the street level, and these compare very
unfavourably with the remainder for space, light, air
and ventilation. It is very satisfactory to know that
no more underground bakehouses are allowed to be
constructed.
SLAUGHTER.HOUSES.
The slaughter.houses remain the same in number
as last year, viz.: nine; three at Kilburn; five
