MILK GRANTS.
During 1935 you granted cow's milk daily to mothers
and children whose incomes were found to be within your
economic scale, to the value of £418 7s. 4½d. In some cases
the grant was for Dried Food, such grants amounting to
£235 12s. 1d. during the year.
The milk question for the multitude appears to be a very
complex one. The problem really resolves itself into a question
of price. If it could be produced and supplied at half
the present cost it would be consumed in immense quantities,
with marked benefit to the mass of the people, especially to
children and adolescents. The Ministry has recently emphasised
the importance of a better milk supply.
