I would remind you what great care is taken the moment
a case is notified by a doctor to visit and inspect the premises,
to remove the patient, have every " contact " swabbed, and
the place thoroughly disinfected.
Encephalitis Lethargica.
Two deaths occurred from Encephalitis Lethargica during
the year.
Hospital Accomodation for cases of Infections Disease.
This has been dealt with elsewhere in my Report, 361
cases of Scarlet Fever were notified* during the year, 281
of which were admitted to Hospital.
84 cases of Diphtheria were notified, 75 of which were
admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital.
Where the home conditions are suitable and medical
supervision is carried out by the Medical Practitioner in charge
of the case, patients suffering from Scarlet Fever and Diphtheria
are nursed at home. Suitable disinfectants are supplied
free of charge.
The incidence of these diseases did not increase as a
result of the isolation being carried out at home.
Puerperal Fever and Puerperal Pyrexia.
Eleven cases of Puerperal Fever and 38 cases of Puerperal
Pyrexia were notified during the year.
There was no observed relation between these cases and
Scarlet Fever.
Of these two cases of Puerperal Fever and 26 cases of
Puerperal Pyrexia occurred in a Maternity Hospital situated
in this district and belonging to a neighbouring authority.
TENTS, VANS AND SHEDS.
Gipsies made their appearance again during the year,
chiefly on vacant pieces of land in Kingsbury and a number
of complaints from residents in the district were received as to
nuisance caused by these nomads. Prompt action was taken
in each case with the result that the vans were removed from
the district.
PREMISES AND OCCUPATIONS SUBJECT TO
CONTROL BY THE LOCAL AUTHORITY.
HOUSES LET IN LODGINGS, AND COMMON
LODGING-HOUSES.
There are no premises in the District which come within
either of these classifications.
