of the Government's eradication scheme, which is steadily progressing. In
fact, the time cannot "be far off when all cattle herds in the Country will
be up to Attested standard.
In June the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Pood, determined
the arrangement whereby the Inspectors issued Certificates for subsidy payments
on deadweight pigs, the work then being taken over by the Ministry1 s
own officers. Up to June 15th, 705 animals had been dealt with, 101
certificates being issued. The Council received 6d per pig for this
service, with a minimum of 3/0d per certificate.
There were twelve persons licensed by the Council as fit persons to
slaughter animals, most of them work part or full time as slaughtermen at
the local slaughterhouse. No complaint has been received from other
districts concerning the conduct of any of these men, nor was there any
need for adverse report on the men locally employed.
DRAINAGE.
Twelve cesspools and septic tanks were abolished during the year, ten
of the properties concerned being connected to the extended sewer in the
Barnet Lane area. Progress is being made in securing that the remaining
houses will also connect to this sewer. A pair of cottages on Totteridge
Green were put over to main drainage, the Council bearing the additional
expense of exceeding the statutory distance limit.
The construction of two new sewage disposal plants was approved and
supervised by the department, one being for a new house and the other for a
group of three farm cottages, the subject of an Improvement Grant.
