MORTAL STATISTICS,
Of 271 deaths, 8 occurred under one year of age.
The following wore the chief causes of death:- Cancer 50 (17 males and
33 females); Heart Disease 88; Tuberculosis (all forms) 16; Cerebral
Haemorrhage 20; Bronchitis 10; Pneumonia (all forms) 15; Influenza 1;
Nephritis 6; Congenital Debility and Malformation, Premature Birth 6; Suicide 4
Other Violence 7.
CONTROL OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
No use has been made of the Shick and Dick Tests in Diphtheria and Scarlet
Fever.

No primary or revaccinations were performed by the Medical Officer of Health
under the Public Health (Smallpox Prevention) Regulations, 1917•
LABORATORY WORK.

The Council have made arrangements with the Clinical Research Association for examination and reports on all suspected cases of Diphtheria, Typhoid Fever, Tuberculosis and Food Poisoning. 47 specimens were examined and reported upon as follows:-
