Mrs. Strugnell and Gentlemen,
I have much pleasure in presenting to you my Annual Report on the Health of
the District for the year 1939.
It is drawn up on the lines indicated in Circular 1961 of the l6th February,
1940, as requested by the Ministry of Health,

NATURAL AND SOCIAL CONDITION
The population is largely residential, and consists chiefly of people whose
occupation lies outside the urban area. Those employed in the district, apart
from the tradesmen and their employees, are mainly skilled workers at dental
manufacturing, lithographic, rinting and optical works.
Relief is supplied by the Public Assistance Committee of the Hertfordshire
County Council.
