tions, supervising work in progress, and testing new lengths
of drains and sanitary fittings.
Drains were reported upon and examined under the
provisions of Sec. 41 of the Public Health Act, 1875, while
the remaining drains were examined by means of the smoke
test.
The Council have not been called on during the year to
lay any lengths of sewer on private property.
The total number of drains to houses and other premises
reconstructed during the year was 22.
Repeated visits have been paid to works in progress.
The reconstruction of these drains has necessitated the laying
of approximately 895 yards of glazed earthenware and iron
drain pipes; 40 gullies, 18 intercepting traps, 13 pedestal, etc.,
water closets, 3 soil pipes, and 19 ventilation shafts were
fixed; 30 manholes and inspection chambers were built, the
number of tests applied to the lengths of drains being 84
water tests and 22 smoke tests.
