NOTES TO TABLE III.
(a) All “Transferable Deaths" of residents, i.e., of persons resident in the District who have
died outside it, are included with the deaths in columns 2—10. Transferable deaths of non-residents
who have died in the District are excluded from these columns.
(b) All deaths in public institutions, whether of residents or non-residents, are entered in
column 11.
(c) Under Diphtheria all deaths from Croup are included, except those due to “spasmodic,"
“striduloug," “catarrhal," or “false" croup.
(d) Under Tuberculous Meningitis are included any deaths from Acute Hydrocephalus.
(e) Under Cancer are included deaths from Carcinoma, Scirrhus, Epithelioma, Rodent Ulcer,
Sarcoma, Cancer, and Malignant Disease.
(f) Under Diarrhœa are included Epidemic Diarrhœa, Epidemic Enteritis, Infective Enteritis,
Zymotic Enteritis, Summer Diarrhœa, Catarrh, Muco-Enteritis, and Colitis.
(g) Under Congenital Debility are included Atrophy, Marasmus, and Want of Breast Milk; but
not Atelectasis.
NOTES TO TABLE IV.
(a) The total in the last column of Table IV. equals the total in column 1 and in column 3 of
Table III.
(b) Under Abdominal Tuberculosis are included deaths from Tuberculous Peritonitis and
Enteritis and from Tabes Mesenterica.
(c) The total deaths from Congenital Malformations, Premature Birth, Atrophy, Debility and
Marasmus equals the total in Table III. under the heading Congenital Debility and Malformation,
including Premature Birth.
Want of Breast Milk is included under Atrophy and Debility.
