ADMINISTRATION OF THE ORDERS OF THE FOOD
CONTROLLER.
On May 8th the L cal Government Board issued the Local Authorities
(Food Control) Order (No. 1) 1917, which imposed upon the -Borough Council,
and upon such of their officers as they should appoint for the purpose, the
duty of enforcing certain of the Orders of the Food Controller. At the same
time the Board suggested that the Sanitary Inspectors should be appointed to
carry out this work in the course of their other duties. The Council accordingly
on May 23rd instructed the Sanitary Inspectors to make the necessary
inspections, and on June 27th they empowered and instructed the Medical
Officer of Health and the Sanitary Inspectors to take the necessary steps for
the enforcement of the Orders. This arrangement was left undisturbed when
the Local Food Committee was constituted, the Sanitary Inspectors continuing,
under the direction of the Medical Officer of Health, to carry out the necessary
inspections and the purchase of samples, and to institute legal proceedings in
respect of contravention of the Orders. The work was suitably allotted fo
the Food Inspectors, the Factory and Workshop Inspector (male), and the
District Inspectors respectively.
The work done by the Sanitary Inspectors in this connection is indicated in
the table on the next page.
