By reason of facilities placed at the disposal of the Medical Officer of
Health by the Mayoress' Nursing Fund for Sick Poor Children it has been
possible to send a visiting nurse once or twice a day to all cases where the
visitor reported that such help was necessary, and where arrangements were
not made for the removal of the patient to hospital. Milk, eggs, and coal
were also paid for out of the fund in certain cases.
The amount of this work is indicated in the following paragraph:—
784 patients (in 579 families) were nursed, and 2,906 visits were paid by
the nurses, the average number of visits per family being 5.
1 patient nursed in each of 429 families.
2 patients ,, ,, ,, ,, 109 „
3 ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, 34 ,,
4 ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, 7 ,,
(7 patients belonged to families counted in the 1916 figures).
174 families received milk, and 9 coal.
In the annual report for 1916 a somewhat exhaustive analysis will be found
of the measles records for that year.

In the following table are set out the deaths and death-rates from measles for the past 10 years for the whole borough and the four registration sub-districts.
